Karachi, Sep 21 (PTI) The ex-girlfriend of tainted Pakistani cricketer Muhammad Asif today claimed that she received death threats after meeting International Cricket Council officials to discuss match-fixing scandal. Veena Malik, a popular actress, model and television show host, told the British tabloid ”The Sun” that she received a chilling warning at home after handing evidence of Asif”s dealings with an Indian bookie to the ICC Anti-corruption and Security Unit (ACSU).

She also claimed that she had got a mail in which she was ordered not to talk to the media and keep her mouth shut. “I will kill you, watch what I do,” she claimed the mail read.

“I was also visited two weeks ago by a man who gave me a message to say someone was going to come after me – and there would be no warning. I can”t sleep at night because I fear for my life,” she said.

“But if I have to die, I will die. I”m not scared of threats.

I warned the Pakistan Cricket Board about match-fixing eight months ago but I was ignored. Now people have to speak out,” she said.

Asif, 27, is one of three Pakistan players suspended and sent home amid allegations of “spot-fixing” by bowling deliberate no-balls during last month”s Fourth Test against England. Veena also said that she discovered Asif”s involvement in spot-fixing after she called a number in India that kept on appearing on his phone bills.

“I thought it was some women he was in touch with. But a man answered.

He claimed they were working on commercial campaigns together. Asif went to Thailand without telling me.

When he returned he finally admitted he met an Indian man to set up a deal,” she said. Veena also claimed in the interview that she later listened in on a telephone call as the man told Asif on the phone: “We spent a lot of money on you and you”ve made a commitment to us.

” She said: “They were offering Asif 25,000 pounds to play badly but he said he needed 128,000 pounds.” Veena also said that players may be doing it out of fear and because they are getting threats.

The actress, who dated the cricket star for nearly two years, said: “He would never mention any names, but he would say, ”I”m not the only one involved”.” PTI Corr SHN.

The former girlfriend of Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Asif  actress Veena Malik, has said that she has received death threats after speaking out about the match-fixing scandal.

Veena revealed that she received a terrifying email after handing evidence of Asif’s dealings with an Indian bookie to the International Cricket Council.
“Don’t talk to the media, keep your mouth shut, bitch. I’ll kill you, watch what I do,” The Sun quoted the email, as saying.
The 27-year-old also said that a man had visited her two weeks ago to threaten her.
“I can’t sleep at night because I fear for my life. But if I have to die, I will die. I’m not scared of threats. I warned the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) about match-fixing eight months ago, but I was ignored. Now people have to speak out,” Veena said.
Asif is one of three Pakistan players to be suspended and sent home amid allegations of  “spot-fixing” by bowling deliberate ‘no-balls’ during last month’s Lord’s Test against England.
Earlier, Veena had launched a scathing attack on the 27-year-old pacer accusing him of being a ‘serial match-fixer’.
Veena revealed that before the Pakistan team flew to Australia last year, Asif had made a sudden visit to Bangkok to meet certain bookies.
“He went to Bangkok to meet some bookmakers within a notice of 24 hours. This is when we were in a relationship. The conversation on the phone before the tour of Australia was specifically about fixing,” Veena had said.
“I have more evidence of his involvement and I can show that he and some other players also indulged in spot fixing on the Australian tour,” she added.
She further said that Asif had influenced 18-year-old Amir to indulge in the activities.
“He said that he called Aamir and influenced him to get involved on the Australian tour,” Malik said.
Veena also alleged that Asif, who was caught for doping during the first season of Indian Premier League (IPL), bribed some well-known people to get his ban reduced to one year.

Asif, test captain Salman Butt and Mohammad Amir have been suspended by the ICC over spot-fixing allegations.

The actress’s allegations came amid a broadening corruption scandal enveloping Pakistan’s ongoing tour of England. Asif, Butt and Amir were suspended after allegations that an agent took money for organizing the players to bowl no-balls at prearranged times in order to fix spot betting markets.

The ICC is also investigating new claims that Pakistan players deliberately manipulated the team’s run scoring rate during a portion of its innings in the recent one-day game at The Oval at the behest of bookmakers.

PCB chairman Ijaz Butt countered with his own claims that England players took payoffs to deliberately lose the match. Continue reading “Mohammad Asif’s ex-girlfriend Veena Malik receives death threats” »
