Former girlfriend of Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Asif, Veena Malik, has revealed that she received a death threat which was delivered in person to her parents’ home last week, days after she received one of her own for providing Asif’s phone records to the ICC.

Asif is one of three Pakistani cricketers under suspension by the ICC over allegations of spot-fixing and match-fixing.

Malik was interviewed by an ICC officer and handed over the printed phone records, which she said showed the paceman regularly calling Dheeraj Dixit(alleged to be a bookie) as according to the Sydney Morning Herald reports.

Malik has claimed that Dixit is an illegal bookie who met with Asif in Bangkok before the Australian tour last summer to organise a series of fixes. Pakistan lost every match of that tour.

Sydney, Sep 27 (ANI): Former girlfriend of Pakistani pacer Mohammad Asif, Veena Malik, has revealed that a death threat was delivered in person to her parents’ home last week, days after she received one of her own for providing the ICC with phone records showing Asif in regular contact with an alleged Indian bookmaker.

Dixit, who was in England for the recent infamous tour but was refused media accreditation for games, has rubbished Malik’s claims and threatened to sue her.

Malik received an emailed death threat after meeting the ICC security officer, but what most concerns her is a recent visit by an unknown man to her parents’ home.

“I live in Lahore, my parents live in Islamabad and their place is very private, show business people do not know where they live,” Malik told the Herald.

“A man went to their house, covering his face with a scarf. Thankfully at the time my mother was out and my father was away. The man told the house servants that I should keep quiet and he quickly left on foot,” she said.

Malik’s testimony and documentation to the ICC will only be valuable if it is proven Dixit is a match-fixer. (ANI)

Mohammad Asif’s ex-girlfriend Veena Malik gets death threats

Karachi:

The ex-girlfriend of tainted Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Asif claimed that she received death threats after meeting International Cricket Council officials to discuss match-fixing scandal.

Veena Malik, a popular actress, model and television show host, told the British tabloid ‘The Sun’ that she received a chilling warning at home after handing evidence of Asif’s dealings with an Indian bookie to the ICC Anti-corruption and Security Unit (ACSU).

She also claimed that she had got a mail in which she was ordered not to talk to the media and keep her mouth shut.

“I will kill you, watch what I do,” she claimed the mail read.

“I was also visited two weeks ago by a man who gave me a message to say someone was going to come after me – and there would be no warning. I can’t sleep at night because I fear for my life,” she said.

“But if I have to die, I will die. I’m not scared of threats. I warned the Pakistan Cricket Board about match-fixing eight months ago but I was ignored. Now people have to speak out,” she said.

Asif, 27, is one of three Pakistan players suspended and sent home amid allegations of “spot-fixing” by bowling deliberate no-balls during last month’s Fourth Test against England.

Veena also said that she discovered Asif’s involvement in spot-fixing after she called a number in India that kept on appearing on his phone bills.

“I thought it was some women he was in touch with. But a man answered. He claimed they were working on commercial campaigns together. Asif went to Thailand without telling me.

When he returned he finally admitted he met an Indian man to set up a deal,” she said.

Veena also claimed in the interview that she later listened in on a telephone call as the man told Asif on the phone: “We spent a lot of money on you and you’ve made a commitment to us.”

She said: “They were offering Asif 25,000 pounds to play badly but he said he needed 128,000 pounds.”

Veena also said that players may be doing it out of fear and because they are getting threats.

The actress, who dated the cricket star for nearly two years, said: “He would never mention any names, but he would say, ‘I’m not the only one involved’.”

Islamabad, Sept. 21: The former girlfriend of Pakistan’s suspended fast bowler Mohammad Asif was reported in British media on Tuesday saying she received death threats soon after meeting International Cricket Council officials to discuss match fixing.

Actress Veena Malik told The Sun that she received an e-mail saying “don’t talk to the media, keep your mouth shut… I’ll kill you, watch what I do.”

Officials of the ICC’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit met Veena earlier this month after she went public with allegations about Asif’s activities.

Veena claimed Asif was in contact with someone in India to fix betting markets. “They were offering Asif £25,000 to play badly but he said he needed £128,000. It was a couple of weeks before Pakistan’s tour of Australia,” she said.

Australia routed Pakistan 3-0 in the test series and 5-0 in the one-day series besides winning the only Twenty20 international.

“One day I told him I was praying for them to win. He replied, ‘Why are you wasting your time? We are not going to win anything until December 2010’. When I realised what he meant, I told him it was over between us and I decided to talk about it,” she said.

Veena also alleged Asif paid bribes to avoid more serious punishments. “He also told me he handed over money to avoid a lifetime ban after failing a dope test in India,” she said, adding “He said, ‘Money can buy anything.’”
