Veena Malik claims Mohammad Asif is a serial fixer

Popularity: 1% [?]

THE ex-girlfriend of Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Asif has claimed the fast bowler confessed to her that last summer’s Australia-Pakistan Test was fixed and told her during the series to “stop praying – we will not win a single match during the tour to Australia”.

Veena Malik, a comedian and former model, made the allegations on Pakistan’s Express News network during a discussion of the match-fixing scandal, which has outraged the cricket-mad nation as it is experience the worst floods in a century.

Malik said Asif confessed during a phone call he made to her while in Australia that the team planned to throw the three-Test series, but she said she was unaware what Asif’s involvement was in the fix.

“When Pakistan started losing in Australia, I jokingly said: ‘For God’s sake, win a match.’ To this, he replied, ‘We won’t win anything until 2010′,” she told the late night Frontline program.

Malik also claimed that before the Pakistan team flew out to Australia last December, Asif made a sudden visit to Bangkok to meet bookmakers there.

“One day, he got business-class tickets and went to Bangkok,” she said. “He told me that he was offered $40,000.

‘I advised him not to be part of such activities but he did not listen. Instead, he went ahead and demanded $200,000.”

She added: “Since he came back, he has been totally involved in this. Once he told me that the entire Pakistan team is involved. From head to toe, the Pakistan players and officials are involved.”

Malik said she had provided details of Asif’s travels to the Pakistan Cricket Board as well as information relating to a R15 million ($356,000) loan she made to him, which she claimed was in part used to pay Asif’s lawyers, who were working to reduce a two-year doping ban.

Asif’s failure to repay the loan caused a public row between them, although they announced a rapprochement at a press conference in May.

The match-fixing allegations, revealed in a sting conducted by Britain’s News of the Worldnewspaper, has shocked Pakistan and prompted its Prime Minister, Yousaf Raza Gilani, to order an immediate inquiry.

Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari – who is patron of the Pakistan Cricket Board – ordered a detailed report and demanded PCB chairman Ijaz Butt keep him informed of developments in the Scotland Yard probe, a spokesman said.

Veena had filed a court case against Asif for recovery of some Rs. 13 million earlier this year after their break-up, with the cricketer denying he owed her anything.

After an ugly exchange of allegations in the media, both reached a settlement on the intervention of a mutual friend.

Veena said Asif had told her that Pakistan would not win any Test series until 2010 and that good money was to be earned from spot fixing without affecting results of the matches.

“I have more evidence of his involvement and I can show that he and some other players also indulged in spot fixing on the Australian tour,” she said.

Malik also alleged that Asif had paid bribes to escape a longer suspension when he tested positive in a dope test during the Indian Premier League two years back.

Ex Factor As Veena Malik Testifies Against Asif

Posted by admin On August - 31 - 2010

WITH a bright light shone on cricket amid allegations that members of the Pakistan team cheated and tricked idiots stupid enough to gamble on the toss of ball, we meet Veena Malik actress and former lover to Mohammad Asif, who tells us:

“When Pakistan started losing in Australia, I jokingly said, ‘For God’s sake, win a match.’ To this he replied, ‘We won’t win anything until 2010.’”

She says he then went to Bangkok.

He told me he was offered $40,000 (£25,850). I advised him not to be part of such activities but he did not listen. He went ahead and demanded $200,000 (£129,300)…

“Since he came back, he has been totally involved in this.”

Forget the bookie. Look for the ex-lover. Veena also pointed the finger at – ready? – Dhiraj Dikshit. She says he is a bookie in on the alleged scam. He responds:

Veena is a liar, I am being targeted as I interact with the players,” he told the media. Anyone can check my bank account; I am clean.”

The Times of India reports – and note that Dikshit is now Dixit:

Dixit said that during a telephonic conversation, Veena… told “me that she is ‘managing’ seven Pakistani players. She did not name the players but told me that if you want we can do a big deal. I’ve results. That time, 2-3 matches withAustralia had taken place and more were in the offing.

“During that time, she told me if I had any big businessman from India who wanted to earn a lot of money in a night, then I can introduce him to her.”

Veena and Asif did not part on the best of terms, as this report suggests:

According to sources cited by Daily Times, Asif had assured Veena to marry her once his cricket career was back on track and he was selected in the Pakistan team.

Asif had been banned from cricket for a year for testing positive for nandrolone in 2006. In 2008, he was stopped in Dubai and, allegedly found to be in possession of drugs. At the time we were told:

“He [Asif] will be deported as soon as the police finalise the procedures,” Mohammad Al Nuaimi, the public prosecutor who handled Asif’s case, told Gulf News. “It is definite that he committed the crime as he was caught red-handed … however in certain cases and for a faster litigation process the Public Prosecution drops a case due to insignificance and deports the suspect.”

Back to Veena and Asif’s love story:

“Veena kept on giving Asif money during his turbulent period. Asif received approximately Rs 20 million from Veena. She had to sell her house in Islamabad, a couple of residential plots and gold jewelry to help Asif come out of the mess in which he was. She was madly in love with him. But he dumped her and married someone else,” sources added.

Asif denied Veena’s allegations and an agreement was reached. And now Veena is back…

Is she a whistle-blower or a woman scorned? Only time will tell, but Veena Malik could well go down as the most controversial cricket WAG. Or a wannabe cricket WAG?

Her affair and fallout with Mohammad Asif were well documented — there were even reports that she and Asif had a secret wedding — but somewhere their relationship hit a dead-end. “I’m a bigger star than him in Pakistan,” she boasts.

Daughter of a retired army officer, Veena comes from Rawalpindi. She is a graduate in Sociology, Psychology and Persian. She passed out from FG College in Rawalpindi.

According to her website, she is warm hearted, friendly and outspoken and loves to go on long drives. “The sublime part of her life is that she always relies on her own efforts and exertions. By temperament she is mild and has touch of humanism,” veenamalik.com.pk notes.

In pursuit of a career, she moved to Lahore. Fluent in English, Veena is reportedly famous in Pakistan for her mimicry. She has acted in quite a few films, including an Indian movie, before she moved on to television. Mohbatan Sachian is supposed to be her biggest hit in what they call in Pakistan as Lollywood. Her website terms it as a milestone in her film career.

Currently she hosts a parody show called Ms Duniya in which she imitates politicians and celebrities. One of her famous acts, apparently, is her imitation of Sonia Gandhi. “It was well received. She has even mimed Michael Jackson. She has done parody of top Bollywood stars like Rani Mukherjee, Shilpa Shetty, etc,” says her PR manager Sohail. According to him, the show tops the TRPs in Pakistan.

She was introduced to Asif at a party in Lahore in 2009, where the pacer had apparently come drunk. After a none-too-pleasant beginning, they became friends but she never ‘liked his drinking habit’. “He has bad drinking habit. He used to take Ecstasy pills,” says Veena.

According to Sohail, their friendship blossomed after Asif got into troubles in 2009. “She helped him financially after he was banned for doping,” says her manager. But his drinking habits led to their split after a bitter fight. She even filed an FIR against him for not returning her money.

Till Sunday, Veena never openly talked about the alleged match-fixing side of Asif. Once she did, her phone has not stopped buzzing. “Not just the Indian channels, even CNN has interviewed her,” says her manager.

She may well now be right in her claim that she is more popular than Asif. Few can dispute her claim, after the current cricket scandal.

Mohammad Asif’s in it with an Indian bookie

Posted by admin On August - 31 - 2010

Mohammad Asif’s former girlfriend, Veena Malik has alleged that the fast bowler had close ties with an Indian bookmaker and would make deals with him.

“The man with whom Asif used to deal is called Dheeraj Dixit,” said Malik, a Pakistani actress.

The actress also accused Asif of doctoring his medical report after he tested positive in a dope test in the IPL.

She said that the report was doctored after he paid an Indian medical officer Rs 30 lakh to amend the results.

Both Asif and his lawyer, Kamran Shaikh, were unavailable for comment.

“Asif told me that Pakistan would not win a series till 2010. He (Dixit) helped fix matches. And he also influenced junior players in his team, including Aamir,” she said.

Malik said that the phone calls between Asif and Dixit took place in front of her. She said that on one occasion Dixit had offered him $40,000 (R19 lakh) for fixing the Australia series but Asif was demanding $100,000 (R47 lakh).

“The Pakistan Cricket Board needs to explain how Asif disappeared for a day from the camp.

“He had gone to Thailand to meet Dixit and seal the deal,” she said.

“I know that Salman Butt and Mohammad Amir were also part of the fixing scam in Australia.”

Malik had ended her relationship with Asif earlier this year in a messy exchange of allegations and counter-allegations.

“I had ended the relationship because I was unable to convince Asif to give up his betting habits.”

Blaming the Pakistan Cricket Board and Interior Ministry for the Asif’s current plight, she said, “Asif felt he has become invincible.”

After being caught in Dubai for possessing illegal drugs, Asif was set free after Pakistan’s interior minister had personally intervened.

Veena said that Asif’s final report on the IPL doping test, which was sent to the Pakistan Cricket Board, was not signed by many of the people involved in the committee including Sunil Gavaskar.

“The report was accepted by the Pakistani authorities,” alleged Veena. She  added that Asif has been supported in all his illegal activities by the top brass of the Pakistan Cricket Board.

Malik said she will give testimony “as and when required by the authorities”.

Mohammad Asif’s ex-girl friend claims he fixed games

Pakistan fast bowler, Mohammad Asif’s ex-girl friend, Veena Malik has added fuel to the already raging match-fixing controversy at Lord’s by saying that she had evidence that Asif used to fix matches. Malik, who is a Pakistani actress, also names an Indian photo-journalist as a part of the plot.

Malik had had an acrimonious break-up with Asif after the pace bowler’s parents had him married to another girl. Malik had earlier claimed that the two were married. The two had then reached a settlement after a common friend had intervened.

According to Malik, Asif used to get many calls from a single number and she got suspicious of the same. According to her, she first thought that Asif was having an affair with another woman, but when she confronted him, he revealed that it was actually an Indian bookie who was paying him to fix matches. Malik also added that she tried to dissuade Asif from fixing matches, but Asif did not pay heed to her advice.

Malik also claimed that she had evidence of the same: “Asif used to call up this Indian bookmaker and other bookies as well on the phone of his servant. I have evidence of the messages he exchanged with the bookies.”

Malik added that the Indian photo-journalist’s name was Dheeraj Dixit and that the two had spoken very briefly over the telephone once.

Dixit spoke to TV channels in India and refuted all these allegations. He said that he was a journalist and it was Malik who had called him up to offer him a deal. According to Dixit, Malik said that she was representing Asif and would like to know if he could pay Asif in return for fixing games. Dixit also added that he wanted to probe the story further and hence entertained the call in the first place.
