undoubtedly raised eyebrows. At the same time, they are suspected to be a weapon of revenge as Asif had dumped her to marry another woman. Know about Veena Malik.Veena Malik, a Pakistan-based actress, model and comedian, is a popular star in the country’s film and television industry. Known for her mimicry skills, the actress has also appeared in a few films, including an Indian one. Her website boasts the movie Mohbatan Sachian as her biggest hit and a milestone in her film career.
Veena’s affair and breakup with Mohammad Asif was much talked about in Pakistan. It is even said that the couple married secretly, however denied strongly by them. DNA’s website reports that the couple met in a party in Lahore in 2009, where the cricketer apparently came drunk. Though both became friends, Veena was always annoyed by his drinking habit. Asif used to take Ecstasy pills, Veena claims in the report.
Veena’s manager Sohail reveals that Asif and Veena’s friendship blossomed after the former was banned from Cricket for doping, when she helped him financially. But the gay days didn’t last long as soon their relationship met a dead end.
Malik broke up with Asif after the latter married as per his parents wishes. Veena had filed a court case against Asif for recovery of some Rs 13 million earlier this year after their break-up, with the cricketer denying he owed her anything.
After an ugly exchange of allegations in the media, both reached a settlement on the intervention of a mutual friend.
Whistle-blower?
Before Sunday, Veena never revealed to media the alleged match-fixing side of Asif, though she claims that she knew a lot. “Asif used to call up this Indian bookmaker and other bookies as well on the phone of his servant. I have evidence of the messages he exchanged with the bookies,” she said as she waved around a paper having a list of messages.
Veena said Asif had told her that Pakistan would not win any Test series until 2010 and that good money was to be earned from spot fixing without affecting results of the matches.
“I have more evidence of his involvement and I can show that he and some other players also indulged in spot fixing on the Australian tour,” she said.
Malik also alleged that Asif had paid bribes to escape a longer suspension when he tested positive in a dope test during the Indian Premier League two years back.
She told the Frontline programme on Pakistan’s Express News network, “When Pakistan started losing in Australia, I jokingly said: ‘For God’s sake, win a match.’ To this, he replied ‘we won’t win anything until 2010′.”
The New Zealand Herald reports Veena as saying that before the Pakistan team flew out to Australia for matches last December, Asif made a sudden visit to meet bookmakers in Bangkok.
“One day, he got business-class tickets and went to Bangkok,” she said. “He told me that he was offered $40,000. I advised him not to be part of such activities but he did not listen. Instead, he went ahead and demanded $200,000,” it is reported.
The report adds: “Since he came back, he has been totally involved in this. Once he told me that the entire Pakistan team is involved. From head to toe, the Pakistan players and officials are involved.”
