Shiv Sena shuts down Lonavala against Bigg Boss

Lonavala: Life remained peaceful in this Maharashtra hill station snuggling in the Western Ghats despite a Shiv Sena-sponsored shutdown against two Pakistanis participating in reality TV show “Bigg Boss”, the police said on Monday.

Road and rail traffic on the Mumbai-Pune sector remained unaffected as the shutdown was restricted to the hill station that has a population of around 40,000, a police official from the Lonavala control room said.

Tight security was in place in the entire hill station, the main town square, Bhushi Dam, the approach-exit roads to the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and the old Mumbai-Pune highway, besides other important locations in the town whose economy is fuelled by tourism.

Shiv Sena calls for Lonavla bandh

The police has arrested four youths in connection with the attack on a jeep carrying a team shooting the show Big Boss. Shiv Sena has called for Lonavla bandh on Monday to protest against the government. The police on the basis of the description given by the driver, Yeshvant Bagal-Kothe, arrested

the suspects who are all residents of Lonavla. They have been identified as Dilip Anand Gaikwad, Vijay Gangaram Akhade, Hemant Shivram Mene and Pankaj Maruti Khole.

The four have been charged with various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including violation of prohibitory orders and also assaulting by making crowd and damaging private property. According to the complaint, the four arrived on two separate bikes, stopped the jeep, assaulted the passengers and damaged the vehicle.

Bigg Boss: Four held for attack at Lonavla

PUNE: The Lonavla police on Sunday arrested four men for allegedly beating up three people associated with the Bigg Boss reality show on Saturday afternoon.

Last week, some Shiv Sena workers were detained after they staged a protest at the studio in Lonavla where the show is being shot. The Sainiks were opposed to the participation of Pakistani artistes in the show.

Around 3.30 pm on Saturday, five miscreants intercepted a vehicle of the reality show organisers and smashed its windscreen. They also beat up three people in the vehicle Amol Kulkarni and Suraj Salimkar, both from Mumbai, and Dipesh Shiva of Lonavla.

MUMBAI: A ‘bandh’ called by the Shiv Sena to protest against the inclusion of two Pakistani participants in the hit reality TV show ‘ Bigg Boss 4′, has begun in Lonavala hill station where the show set is located.

Sena spokesperson Neelam Gorhe said despite demands by the party, the Colors channel did not remove the two Pakistani participants – Veena Malik and Begum Nawazish Ali – from the show.

“Pune District Collector has also served a show cause notice to Colors, asking why the show should not be stopped as it was creating law and order issues at Lonavala,” she said.

Shiv Sena, furious that the district administration is yet to decide on banning the Big Boss 4 shoot, and the Colors channel officials’ silence on the Pakistani participants, has vowed to resort to its traditional ways of persuasion. While Pune district Sena chief, Machhindra Kharade,

bluntly said its agitation over the past five days was only the beginning, party spokesperson, Neelam Gorhe, gave a different twist to the issue saying that the entire episode needs to seen in the light of how we are concerned about national security.

Gorhe said, “The investigation into the German Bakery blast revealed how terrorists have spread their network even in rural Maharashtra, and here we have the government allowing Kasab’s lawyer to stay with two Pakistani citizens in private. Is it not a matter of national concern?”

MUMBAI/PUNE: Even as Shiv Sena renewed its agitation against the two Pakistani actors who are part of the reality TV show ‘Bigg Boss’ — which is being shot at a bungalow in Lonavla near Pune — Maharashtra government denied reports that it was planning to ban the show.

Home minister RR Patil ruled out possibility of imposing any official edict prohibiting shooting. ”We’ve asked district administration to provide adequate security in view of an agitation launched by Shiv Sena,” said Patil.
