Yes boss: Operators toe Sena line, block Colors

MUMBAI: Following the Shiv Sena’s diktat to boycott reality show ‘Bigg Boss’, several cable operators in the city have stopped beaming the channel.

Viewers in the city as well as Thane and Navi Mumbai complained that they couldn’t watch ‘Colors’ from Wednesday afternoon as the channel had been blocked. Sena had threatened cable operators to block ‘Colors’ after the party failed to force the producers of ‘Bigg Boss’ from throwing out Pakistani artistes.

There are about 4.1 million homes in Mumbai with cable connections and if the channel is blacked out the viewership of Bigg Boss will take a beating by 15%, said experts.

Bigg Boss, the popular reality show on Color’s channel is blocked by cable operators acting upon an appeal by a senior Shiv Sena leader. But DTH subscribers continue to view the channel despite the block which is done by cable operators. Cable operators in Santa Cruz, Jogeshwari, Malad and Kandivli reported that the channel had to be blocked from 9pm due to threats received from Shiv Sena leaders.

The Shiv Sena leaders reacted largely against the participation of two contestants from Pakistan Veena Malik and Begum Nawazish Ali. Senior Shiv Sena leader Anil Parab had requested Cable Operators and Distributors Association not to air the show. He also asked them to take a strong stand against the participation of Pakistani people in the show, Bigg Boss.

Bigg Boss blocked out in Mumbai

MUMBAI: Cable operators across the Mumbai and Thane have decided to bow down to the Shiv Sena’s diktat and block the reality show ‘Bigg Boss’ on Colors channel from Wednesday night. The Shiv Sena has been protesting against the participation of two Pakistan actors in the fourth edition of the
popular show. The direct to home (DTH) viewers will, however, be able to watch the show that begins at 9 pm every day.

Sena leader Anil Parab confirmed that cable operators had agreed to a blackout. “The blackout began in Mumbai from Wednesday and will spread to rest of the state by Thursday.”

Some cable operators in the suburbs have blocked the channel; say Sena has issued verbal threats because of its objection to Pakistani artistes in Bigg Boss

Shiv Sena’s continued protests over the inclusion of two Pakistani artistes on Bigg Boss 4 may have led to some cable operators in the city blocking the Colors channel from viewers’ television sets.

Cable operators in Santacruz, Jogeshwari, Malad and Kandivli said that the channel was blocked around 9 pm yesterday because of alleged threats from the Shiv Sena.

Colors TV Blocked In Mumbai, Thane

The transmission of Colors TV was blocked in several cities across Mumbai and Thane. The controversial reality show ‘Bigg Boss 4′, hosted by actor Salman Khan, is currently being aired on this channel. The spokesperson of the Cable Operators’ Association, Ganesh Naidu, said, “This decision was taken on the request made by noted Shiv Sena leader Anil Parab. Parab has appealed to us to oppose the reality show Big Boss 4. He took strong objection to the participation of two Pakistani guests, namely Veena Malik and Ali Saleem aka Begum Nawazish Ali, in the show. We respect his views.”

“Is there a dearth of celebrities in India? Why do we need to import talent from Pakistan?,” questioned a Shiv Sena activist.

Cable operators in Mumbai have blocked Salman Khan’s TV show ‘Bigg Boss’ which shows on Colors channel, following the Shiv Sena’s demand to do so. The party has been protesting against the inclusion of Pakistani participants Veena Malik and Begum Nawazish Ali in the show ever since it began.

Following the block, viewers in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane will be unable to view the show.

Cable operators and the channel confirmed that this has happened. Now it remains to be seen if Colors will continue with the participants from Pakistan or have them pulled from the show.

‘Bigg Boss 4′ goes off air in Mumbai

After not successfully being able to disrupt the shoot of Bigg Boss 4, Shiv Sena, who is protesting against the participation by two Pakistani celebs in the show, has convinced the cable operators in Mumbai to take the show off air.

Many cable operators in Mumbai and Thane area blocked the channel Colors starting 6 pm on Wednesday and by 9 pm almost all operators had blocked the channel. However, people with DTH antennas were able to watch the show.

Shiv Sena is opposed the participation of Pakistani celebrities Veena Malik and Begum Nawazish Ali on the show.

Mumbai cable operators block Colors against ‘Big Boss’

Mumbai  (IANS)- Adopting an aggressive stand against two Pakistani stars participating in the reality TV show “Bigg Boss-4″ on Colors TV, cable operators in Mumbai blocked the entertainment channel from 7 p.m. Wednesday.

A spokesperson for Colors TV said the cable operators have informed that they would completely block it by 9 p.m., when the “Bigg Boss” show episode is scheduled to go on air.

Earlier, the Shiv Sena had reportedly issued an ultimatum to the Colors TV to remove the two Pakistani stars – Veena Malik and Begum Nawazish Ali – from the show by 6 p.m. Wednesday, failing which they would block the channel

Cable subscribers from different parts of Mumbai and Thane also confirmed that Colors TV had suddenly gone off the air.
