The Shiv Sena has called a bandh in Lonavala, where television reality show Bigg Boss is being shot, on Monday to press its demand for the ouster of Pakistani artistes from the show. The party has also announced a protest march, in the afternoon, to the house where the show is being shot.
The Season 4 of Bigg Boss, for which the shooting is on, has 14 contestants, ranging from Pakistani actress Veena Malik, Pakistani TV anchor Nawazish Ali to Abbas Kazmi, the former lawyer of 26/11 convict Ajmal Amir Kasab. Kazmi, however, has gone out of the show after a week-long stay.
Sena spokesperson and MLC Neelam Gorhe said, “This time, the Bigg Boss has a deadly combination of Kasab’s former lawyer Kazmi and Pakistani artistes. Sena chief Bal Thackeray has already made it clear that the party would not allow the show until the Pakistani artistes are dropped. The police as well as district authorities have not done anything other than giving promises. We want a written assurance from authorities that the Pakistani artistes will be dropped.”
She added, “Including Kazmi means the gravity of Kasab’s case is being underplayed. Instead of throwing them out, the chief minister has announced a security cover to them, which is ridiculous.”
Thackeray had said in a statement last week that through Bigg Boss, “the green venom from Pakistan is entering India. Come what may, the Sena will not allow this programme to run. Do not threaten us about law and order; We will disrupt this programme,”
On Monday, a rally has been organised near Shivaji statue in Lonavala market at 11 am, to be followed by a protest march and demonstrations outside the house. Dilip Shinde, deputy superintendent of police, Lonavala, said no rallies or agitations would be allowed. “Section 37 (3) of Mumbai Police Act is in place; five or more persons have been prohibited from gathering at one place… Stern action will be taken against those breaking the law.”
On Sunday, police arrested four Sena workers for allegedly attacking a car carrying the crew members of the show on Saturday. The four arrested — Hemant Mene (28), Vijay Akhade (32), Pankaj Khole (21) and Dilip Gaikwad (35) — were produced in Wadgaon court, which sent them to magisterial custody till October 22.
