Police say 24 protesters detained; channel representative claims shoot not disrupted
IF you don’t behave, you are going to be thrown out of the Bigg Boss house.
A large group of Shiv Sainiks led by local leader Machindra Kharade tried to disrupt the shooting of Bigg Boss 4 in Lonavala to protest against the participation of two Pakistanis in the reality show, but were evicted from the premises by the police before they could enter the house.
The police said there were 24 protesters, but locals said there were around 50.
The Shiv Sena is cut up about the fact that model Veena Malik and cross-dresser Begum Nawazish Ali of Pakistan are among the 14 participants in the reality show hosted by Bollywood superstar Salman Khan.
“The Shiv Sena activists were waving their party flag and kept on shouting slogans against the shooting that was on inside.
There were 40 to 50 protesters,” said Vijay Bhagade, a shopkeeper in the Bigg Boss studio’s vicinity.
The Shiv Sena activists were detained by police officials at the studio under the Bombay Police Act.
“They were 24 protesters, shouting slogans like Jai Bhawani, Jai Shivaji.
We reached before they could do any harm to the sets of Bigg Boss and brought the situation under control.
They have been detained and are in the custody of the Lonavala Gramin Police,” said PSI Baban Yedge of Lonavala City police station. “As of now, we can’t say what action will be taken against them.”
Additional security was called in from Mumbai after the ruckus.
Security personnel posted outside the studio did not let the media speak to the TV production crew, but a representative of the channel later said shooting had not been disrupted as the protesters had only entered the compound and could not get into the Bigg Boss house. There was tight security at the studio after the high drama.
Machindra Kharade, the local Shiv Sena leader, defended the protest. “Pakistan has always promoted terrorism in our country and our party is annoyed by the fact that Pakistani artists have been allowed a stay in our country without a work visa,” said Kharade.
“How can we forget Ajmal Qasab has caused the death of so many Indians? If the government provides the visa now to Nawazish Ali, then it’s a shame. It will demean the sacrifice of the martyrs, who sacrificed their lives for our countrymen.”
Kharade said he spoke to the TV show’s production department about the issue, but when he did not get any response from them, he decided on the protest.
“When the Bigg Boss team did not pay heed to our requests, we broke into the bungalow and took care of the matter in Shiv Sena style,” said Kharade.
