Incidentally, the Sainiks insisted that they had managed to ransack the studio even as the administration and channel officials denied the “ridiculous” claims.
Pune Sena district chief M Kharade said, “Balasaheb issued us a directive about this show after which we had a word with the channel officials in the morning. When we tried to enter the sets, the security guards stopped us. We then ransacked the place.”
However, a source said, “There is a heavy police bandobast at the Bigg Boss house. They would`ve had to cross three levels of security to reach the sets. The protesting Sainiks were apprehended well in time and taken to the police station. The only substantial act was handing over a protest letter to the authorities demanding the removal of Pakistani artistes from the show.“
When contacted, Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray said, “What the Bigg Boss organizers are doing is really shameful.”
SP (Pune rural) Pratap Dighavkar said, “There was a group of Sainiks holding a peaceful protest outside the Bigg Boss house. Deputy superintendent of police Dilip Shinde detained 24 of them under Section 68 of Bombay Police Act. We have also served notices on them under Section 149 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) .”
Meanwhile, the one-upmanship between the Sena and the MNS seems to only be helping the TRPs of the show. But will the controversy add to the popularity of the show? Commentator Santosh Desai said, “I don`t think so. The protest is ridiculous. How are such issues going to affect the life of people?“
Congress MP and former Bigg Boss participant Sanjay Nirupam termed the Sena-MNS drama as a political stunt. “As both the parties have nothing better to do, they are resorting to such things to hit the headlines. There is no government policy that states that Pakistani artistes should be banned in India. Had there been any violations, even I would`ve objected. In fact, people from both sides believe in cultural exchange and Bigg Boss is one such platform. There is enough of diplomatic tension between the two countries yet people from both sides want to have people to people contact. I also know that the people of Pakistan are angry with their government for banning Indian TV channels.“
It is not the first time that the Shiv Sena and MNS have protested against Pakistani artistes taking part in reality shows in India.
An industry source said, “However, unfortunately for both the Sena and the MNS, these protests have not yielded any results. Just a few months ago, they had objected to Pakistani kids taking part in Chhote Ustad and Pakistani comedian Shakeel Siddiqui in Comedy Circus. The shows continued despite their protest.“
