Mumbai, Oct 15: Following a dikat from Bal Thackeray, cable operators in Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai have blocked the TV channel Colours, which has invited the ire of Shiv Sena over the participation of two Pakistani nationals in the popular reality show, Bigg Boss 4.
“We have nothing against the channel, but Balasaheb has made a request in the national interest, and so we shut the channel out,” Ganesh Naidu, President, Cable Operators Distributors’ Association is quoted as saying in an NDTV report.
Sena has contended that their demand for removal of Malik and Ali from the show on national security concerns.
“The investigation into the German Bakery blast revealed how terrorists have spread their network even in rural Maharashtra, and here we have the government allowing Kasab’s lawyer to stay with two Pakistani citizens in private. Is it not a matter of national concern?”Sena spokesperson Neelam Gorhe had said earlier.
Shiv Sena not only controls a good portion of the cable operators in the Mumbai region, but also has the capacity for trigger fear in people with muscle power.
The extreme outcome of this protest against the TV show has raised questions as why people in a democracy should be forced to deal with censorship such as this.
