KARACHI: A two-member team of the International Cricket Council anti-corruption and security unit on Wednesday questioned Mohammad Asif’s ex-girlfriend Veena Malik to give evidence in the match-fixing investigation.
Veena Malik’s manager, Sohail Rashid, said on Wednesday that the actress has been approached by the ICC after Asif was implicated in the spot fixing scandal uncovered by a News of the World sting. An ICC spokesman said the game’s governing body does not comment on the ongoing investigations of its anti-corruption unit. Malik said that she believed an Indian national, who often called and sent text messages to Asif, was involved in illegal gambling. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Mohammad Asif has been dropped from a planned role in a South Indian film after he was embroiled in betting scam allegations, Indian media reported on Wednesday. The bowler had been slated to play the lead role in the Malayalam-language film “Mazhavillinattamvare” (Till The Tip Of The Rainbow), which charts the life of a Pakistani cricket coach in the southern Indian state of Kerala.
