“People in India just love me.” Veena Malik

It’s been a long while since Pakistan’s greatest export to the universe, Veena Malik, has spoken. Welcome back to the folds of the public eye and our collective public hearts, Veena. This is no way means we think any less of Meera ji, who remains our number one for everything till the end of time. But, you know, Veena Malik is back and we’re just so excited. By the way, did her dodgy film about being possessed by an angel ever get released and did it do well? Why do we even ask! Of course it did!
Anyway, Pakistan, the sad news is, Veena is not returning to us anytime soon. “I will be here till the time I keep getting offers and good work,” Veena has told Times of India. “People in India just love me and that’s the reason I am here. My work is appreciated and it feels good when you see yourself being loved by so many people. I am working hard on the South remake of The Dirty Picture wherein I’m playing Silk Smitha.”
As we well know from the Mumbai 125 KM head-bashing incident, Veena Malik is all about the method and hence has allowed her once dainty frame to add on some poundage. “Until a few days [ago] I was 48kg, but now I am 55!” Veena has proclaimed. Pfft. 48, 55, you’re still as waif-like as ever, we’re sure. “Also, I am learning Kannada for the film and am singing a song in the movie as well. I am exploring all aspects of cinema and this is just the beginning of my acting career.”
The other bit of news is that Veena Malik has finally watched The Dirty Picture, which a couple months ago she said she would not, so as not to allow Vidya Balan’s magnificence to overpower her own artistic integrity or something to that effect. “Vidya was just superb as Silk in The Dirty Picture and she deserved the National Award for it. As an actress she is flawless. So it won’t be fair to compare her, and the role she played, with me because there is no comparison between the two of us.”
And finally, some word on how Veena actually feels about returning to Pakistan and how she feels she will be received back home post-FHM cover, which frankly, we had kinda forgotten about. “There are many people in my country, and in India too, who are ready with their criticism all the time. They will ridicule you when you do anything. And I did get a lot of criticism from there but I don’t think that they are a threat to my life. And if there are people who hate me, there are also others who love me,” she said.
