Veena Malik gets support from Miss Pakistan World
Source:hindustantimes.com
Miss Pakistan World Annie Rupani Sunday came out in support of Pakistani actress Veena Malik who is under fire from the Muslim clergy in her country for getting too close with Indian actor Ashmit Patel during her participation in Bigg Boss-4 in India. Slamming Mufti Abdul Qawi who said in a TV interview Friday that the actor has “insulted Pakistan and Islam” by her behaviour, the Houston-based Miss Pakistan World said the mullahs have no right to pass judgment on Veena Malik.
“I fully support Veena Malik for standing up for her beliefs and values. Though unfortunate, Veena Malik’s lashing out may be the only way to make her voice heard. Women are constantly being suppressed under the name of Islam, when in reality, Islam promotes the equality of men and women,” the 21-year-old Boston university student, who was crowned Miss Pakistan World in Toronto in August, told IANS.
The Karachi-born beauty said: “Currently in Pakistan, a high percentage of women are abused, beaten, raped, and killed, yet men are not being held responsible for their actions. Pakistani women’s literacy rates are rising, leading to their outward participation in society.”
But clerics cannot stand these women, she said, who are becoming “strong-willed and passionate, and pushing the bounds of traditional norms. They are trying to project this as a religious issue, but in reality, it is only cultural. Any woman has the right to choose her friends or husband, and Pakistan being a democratic country allows any one to marry regardless of religion. So Veena has not broken any laws or the constitution of Pakistan”.
She said the bold actress has shown that Pakistani women are “beginning to push past their status quo and the culture is starting to deal with consequences. But it will take some time. Veena Malik has shown India that Pakistani women are not weak and submissive”.

ISLAMABAD (AP) — A Pakistani actress castigated for appearing to cuddle with an Indian actor on a reality show lashed out at a Muslim cleric who had criticized her during a widely watched television exchange this week.
The unusual outburst, punctuated by tears, came at a sensitive time in a country where Islamic fundamentalism is spreading and liberals are increasingly afraid to express their views.
“What is your problem with me? You tell me your problem!” an angry Veena Malik asked the Muslim scholar, who accused her of insulting Islam.
Earlier this month, a liberal Pakistani governor was shot dead for opposing the country’s harsh laws against blasphemy. In the aftermath, his killer was cheered as a hero among many in the public, shocking the country’s small liberal establishment.

Stop gunning for Veena Malik

Surely, we do not expect Ms Malik to don a burqa on the show?
One has to question the logic of some of our television anchors gunning for Veena Malik, as they have been doing of late ever since the Pakistani actress came on the popular reality show Bigg Boss in India. Surely, we do not expect Ms Malik to don a burqa on the show? Besides, as she told an interviewer on Express News on January 21, she is an entertainer and melodrama, as well as other aspects of her behaviour for which she is now being criticised by many self-styled guardians of morality, only to be expected.

Ashmit’s b-day bash with Veena
Source: indiatimes.com
Ashmit Patel surely had a field day getting all the attention as he celebrated his birthday in style, at a party hosted by Alok Aggarwal.
His flirt-buddy Veena Malik flew down from Pakistan to stuff ‘Ash’mit’s mouth with his birthday cake. But the highlight of the night was how he was sandwiched between Veena and Sara Khan (he did get immensely cozy with both on the reality show). Sara, who is set to break off from her husband Ali Merchant was seen living it up and grooving to the music.
She certainly won’t mind letting her hair loose when the world is going for her neck! Meanwhile, one-crore babe Shweta Tiwari was the eye candy of the night as Hrishant Goswami tried his level best to bury hatchets with her. Money certainly talks, eh? (wink) Soni Razdan, Teejay Sidhu and Karnvir Bohra, Rahul Dev and Aarti Chhabria were also spotted.

Veena courting controversy again !
Source: indiatimes.com
Pakistani model and actor Veena Malik, who tried to seduce audiences with her oomph on Bigg Boss, is set for another stint on Indian television.
TOI has learned that Veena received offers from three different channels to anchor shows related to the ICC World Cup beginning in February, especially for matches in which Pakistan is playing, given her knowledge of the game, its controversies and her association with some players who came under the scanner for match-fixing allegations.
Confirming the news, Veena told BT, “I will choose one offer. I have had a good experience in the Indian TV industry and this will further cement my position in India. I’m also looking forward to re-establish my bond with the game.” However, since it was Veena who played the role of whistle-blower and pointed out the rampant betting that was going on in her country’s national side, she may be courting controversy again.

Veena, Pam to sort out water woes
Source: hindustantimes.com
Actor-model Veena Malik, Pakistan’s controversial export to India for Bigg Boss 4, will be getting together with Baywatch babe Pamela Anderson to help solve water problems in India and Pakistan.Malik confirms the news.
“Pamela is aware of what I do with the World Health
Organisation in Pakistan. I’ve done a lot of work during the recent floods back home. She came with a water filter that she’s been promoting as a part of an international water conservation project and distributed them in countries that were badly hit by shortage of clean drinking water,” says Malik, who will touch base with the American actor to take the project forward.
Malik and Anderson decided on the partnership when the latter entered Bigg Boss for three days with the water filter that costs just Rs.50 to demonstrate how it works.“Pamela had told me that she wanted to visit Pakistan but couldn’t manage to get a visa. The filter is cheap, but lasts for more than a decade. It’s cost-effective and would suit the pockets of middle-class people in both countries,” asserts Malik, who has decided to ensure that Anderson gets to visit her country to promote her filter.
Bigg Boss 4 wrapped up last Saturday. Malik exited two weeks before, but still hasn’t returned home. “I spoke to my mother and she advised me to stay in India because the situation back home is not great. There’s been a lot of furore after I shared a few kisses with Ashmit Patel,” she rues, adding that they never actually kissed, only hugged. “I didn’t know hugging promotes obscenity. But since there are security concerns in Pakistan, I have kept my whereabouts a secret. But I want to go back soon. I’m really homesick!”

Veena has had everyone — from intellectuals to ordinary bloggers — devoting reams to her to tell the world how much they love or hate her. But no one really seems able to ignore her.
She was apparently chosen to do ‘Sheila…’ because she seemed to be the “most suitable contestant” to perform to the song, a source close to the 32-year-old actress told The Express Tribune newspaper.
However, Veena and her manager Sohail Rashid are playing safe by neither denying nor confirming the news. “She has definitely been very popular on the show. LAHORE: Veena Malik will perform on Tees Maar Khan’s popular song “Sheila Ke Jawani” in the grand finale for which the arrangements have been finalised, a source close to the actor told The Express Tribune. The administration of Colors TV, a private television channel that runs the reality show, has taken the decision to turn Veena Malik into “Sheila” of the mini screen since she was the most suitable contestant of the show to perform on the song, the source added. The song originally stars Katrina Kaif and is doing great on the charts.
While the rumour is abuzz, Malik and her manager Sohail Rashid have neither confirmed nor ruled out the possibility of Malik performing in the finale. “She has definitely been very popular during the show. She was nominated seven times to be evicted but the Indians voted for her six times which means she has a large fan following over there. Considering this fact, this it is quite possible that she’ll perform but I cannot confirm or rule it out [at the moment],” Rashid told The Express Tribune.

Who’s the boss? Veena for sure
Source: jang.com.pk
Ever since she began her stint in India’s reality TV show, Bigg Boss 4, Veena Malik has been called many things. There are people who have applauded her for being ‘honest’, ‘funny’ and ‘interesting’. And then there’s the huge majority that has pronounced her ‘cheap’, ‘vulgar’ and ‘shameless’, among other more colorful words. Probably, Veena doesn’t care. As she’s always known, any publicity is good publicity.
And Veena Malik certainly knows how to get publicity. You have got to hand it to her. Love her, hate her, ridicule her all you want, but the woman is a pro at maneuvering the limelight around herself. A few months ago, nobody cared much for her. Sure, she drew a the laughs through her spot on imitations and comic timing on Geo TV’s Hum Sab Umeed Se Hain and then, for some time, she raised eyebrows as she sobbingly went on air and admitted to her liaison with cricketer Mohammad Asif.
