Bigg Boss 4 is over, but Veena Malik’s new career is going great guns. Over the last few months, debates have raged on about whether Veena is a good representative of Pakistan, why she doesn’t take her role as a ‘cultural ambassador’ seriously and whatever happened to her religious and national values?

Then, after spending the better part of three months, Veena was evicted from the show and millions of people heaved a collective sigh of relief. They would no longer have to put up with Veena canoodling with Ashmit in a skirt. However, Veena made sure she isn’t forgotten so easily. Just a few days ago, she appeared on a local news channel, arguing about her time spent on the show as not being out of line at all.

“I am just an entertainer and I was not representing anyone on the show but myself. Why is everyone after me just because I am a woman and a soft target,” Veena had shot at the cleric who was part of this little debate.

“Why doesn’t anyone talk about the Pakistani actresses or actors who have gone and accepted B and C roles in India,” she asked. “Some have kissed on screen and worn bikinis. Tell me did I wear a bikini on the show, did I kiss, did I undress, whatever I did was part of the tasks on the show.”

What could have been a healthy debate was basically just Veena and the cleric talking at each other, at the same time, as loudly as possible, making us think that perhaps this was just another episode off Bigg Boss.

In the aftermath of her time on the reality show though, Veena has come back to a Pakistan where she says people call her up and tell her she is their “hero”. She has become a mascot for the liberal lot who are aplauding the gutsy girl for standing up to the religious right. Meanwhile, the cleric on the show made a weak case by admitting to he hadn’t watched Bigg Boss but had heard about it.

While Veena Malik was often cringeworthy on Bigg Boss 4, not because she struck up a relationship with a man, or the way she dressed, but simply because of the manner in which she conducted herself, people who found her offensive had the option to not watch.

Just change the channel. And never ever blame a girl who is a  go getter by nature.
