Just days before his conviction in the spot fixing scandal, Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Asif had one person on his mind. Former girlfriend Veena Malik. Or, so says the Pakistani actor.
Malik, 27, says that Asif had contacted her on October 28 — four days before he was found guilty. “He contacted me through a friend. His message was, meri ek baat sun lo. The friend told me that he is feeling very lonely and sad. He wants to talk to you… aur agar hum waapas mil jaaye. I told him it’s not appropriate. He is a married man now. I had spoken to his wife (Sana) just before they got married and I had told her that I will not upset their married life,” she says.
That, however, doesn’t mean she has put it all behind her. “That we are not together does not mean that my emotions have changed. I have emotions for him … par waapis milna mumkin nahi hai. There is no hatred in my heart.”
Veena had blown the whistle on Asif’s involvement in match-fixing after a sting operation by a UK tabloid exposed him. “I handed over his phone records to ICC. I don’t know how much that helped.”
Recalling how she got wind of Asif’s actions, the actor says, “He got messages from an Indian number and deleted them immediately. Suspecting an affair, I got his phone records pulled out and the number turned out to be that of a photographer in Mumbai. I suspected that he was having an affair with a man … when you live with a person for so long and he can’t even explain his phone records, you know something is wrong. He not only cheated on cricket, he also cheated on me. I gave four chances but he didn’t stop. I don’t think I will meet him again,” she says.
