Pakistan fast bowler accuses Veena of stealing his cheques: Asif faces legal trouble from former girl friend Veena

Staff Report

LAHORE: Hell has no fury like a woman scorned and after Shoaib Malik, another top Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Asif is learning it the hard way as he has been taken to court by a former girl friend over a financial dispute. While Shoaib has managed to get out of his marriage controversy with Indian girl Ayesha Siddiqui in Hyderabad, Asif is in trouble with his former girlfriend and actress Veena Malik. Veena has served a legal notice on Asif after two cheques he gave her to settle an outstanding money dispute bounced. “He gave me two cheques amounting to Rs 11.3 million as part of an agreement to clear an amount of nearly Rs 18 million that he owes me,” Veena said.

On the other hand, the fast bowler has accused Veena of stealing the two cheques that she has been claiming to have bounced. Asif on Thursday dismissed the allegation and said the cheques were actually stolen from his home by her. “The cheques she is talking about were stolen from my home in February and I reported their theft to the police and there is a FIR registered with the police.” Asif said he didn’t owe Veena a single penny and that she was taking revenge for his marrying another girl chosen by his family. “I don’t owe her a single penny. Why should I need to take money from anyone. I am a professional cricketer and I earn well. Even when I was banned I got payments from my IPL team,” said Asif who is presently attending Twenty20 World Cup training camp here. “I would advise her to also get married as she is getting older now and should be dedicating her life to better things,” he added. Asif said he was ready to fight the case from a woman ‘who is jealous of my marriage and trying to discredit and destroy my name’.

Posted by admin On April - 9 - 2010

Pakistan fast-bowler Mohammad Asif severed a legal notice by her ex girlfriend and showbiz star Veena Malik [original name Zahida Malik] for issuing her the faulty bank checks of Rs. 11.3 Million while the fast bowler said his check book was lost and was misused.

According to the documents received Asif issued two cheques; worth Rs. 3.9 Million and Rs 7.4 Million to retire financial obligations and debt but the aforesaid cheques have been dishonoured as the ‘signature differs from specimen on file’.

“She has desired from Asif to arrange payment, otherwise law will take its own course and Veena will be liberty to initiate legal proceedings provided under the law, for recovery of Rs. 11.3 Millions,” said Sohail Rasheed, spokesman of Veena.

Fast bowler, who however has a very awful history to his cricketing career as he was once banned for using banned drug and was detained at Dubai Airport for carrying banned drug resulting a life time ban for entering into the country. His career might again shaken up if Veena could takes him to the count as under Section 489 (F) of Pakistan Penal Code “Whoever dishonestly issues a cheque towards repayment of a loan or fulfilment of an obligation which is dishonoured on presentation, shall be punished with imprisonment which may extend to three years or with fine, or with both, unless he can establish, for which the burden of proof shall rest on him, that he had made arrangements with his bank to ensure that the cheque would be honoured and that the bank was at fault in not honouring the cheque.”

During Asif was piling down his banned period and had a patchy era of his cricketing career Veena – who is a notable TV actress, had supported Asif both ‘emotionally’ and ‘financially’ and according to the reports floating in media she kept on giving Asif money during his turbulent period even she had to sell her house in Islamabad, a couple of residential plots and gold jewelry to help Asif come out of the mess in which he was. “Veena has the documentary proof of all the money she was giving to Asif for the last two years,” said Rasheed.

Reports also claimed that both are married and are living in the same house in Lahore but last month during Pakistan National Twenty20 Cup, Asif married someone else namely Sana. “All the controversy is being created to disturb and dismay my married life.” said Asif.
