From her split from Pakistani cricketer Mohammed Asif and spilling beans on his involvement in match fixing, to getting up, close and personal with actor Ashmit Patel on Bigg Boss season 4, to now, conducting her swayambar — Veena Ka Vivaah — on national television, Pakistani actor Veena Malik has always made headlines.

“I’m excited as well as nervous about my swayambar,” says Veena, adding: “I’ve been unlucky in love. Through this show, I want to give love and marriage a chance. I’ve had two broken engagements. The first one broke as the guy whom I was in love with, wasn’t loyal. And, the second one arranged by my father didn’t work as he wanted me to shift to America for good. I hope to find my ideal partner on the show and get married.”

And how did her parents react to her decision of getting married on national TV? “They were more excited than me,” says Veena, whose show will air on Imagine TV.

Talking about the qualities she wants in her Mr Right, she says, “He has to have a good sense of humour. He should be well off to take care of a celebrity like me and have good looks too. Most importantly, his love for me should be pristine. Also, he should smell good.”

Being a Pakistani, does she fear a backlash back home regarding her doing a swayambar? “I think they’ll be happy for me. Moreover, Islam allows every girl to choose the groom of her choice,” says the 27-year-old, who “if possible, would love to have a Christian wedding, a Hindu ceremony and a nikaah.”

What if Ashmit comes on this Imagine TV show as a contestant? “We both liked each other but now we are good friends. I share my work-related issues with him. So, if he’s interested, he’s most welcome to come on the show,” says Veena, who has completed four movies — Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya, Dal Mein Kuch Kaala Hain, Zindagi 50-50 and Mumbai 125 kms.

Meanwhile, Veena has sued the magazine that had carried a nude picture of her on the cover. She has sued for R10 crore and has said that she had never shot for the magazine.
