Veena Malik, Mohammad Asif withdraw petitions

Posted by admin On April - 24 - 2010

LAHORE – Actress Veena Malik and cricketer Mohammad Asif after reaching a compromise withdrew applications filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC) against each other.
The counsels of Asif and Veena appeared before the court on Friday to inform about the compromise and sought permission to withdraw the petitions. On this, Justice Iftikhar Hussain Chaudhry disposed of the two petitions accordingly.
As per the case, Asif issued cheques worth Rs 11.3 million to Veena on February 10 to pay back money that he owed her but the cheques proved bogus and she wanted legal proceedings against him.
Veena moved the LHC against SHO Ghalib Market Gulberg who was not registering FIR against Asif on the bogus cheques despite orders of an additional district & sessions judge of Lahore.
Whereas, Asif approached LHC to restrain Veena from initiating any legal action against him according to the sessions court orders over allegations of issuing bogus cheques.
In her petition, Veena had taken a plea that police was not complying with the court’s orders and reluctant to register a case against Asif.
On the other hand, the counsel of Asif had contended that a civil judge restrained Veena from initiating any proceedings against him on the basis of ‘stolen’ cheques.
He said despite court’s restraining orders she was trying to get a case registered. On last date of hearing, the counsel of the both had sought time for finalising the compromise.
